Making The Dentist Fun From Day One

Did you know that cavities can form as soon as a baby’s first tooth erupts? That’s why the American Dental Association recommends that you bring your little one in for their first dental checkup after their first tooth arrives and before their first birthday. And that’s when we suggest you bring your child in, too!

Our office knows that your child’s first visit can leave a lasting impression, so we strive to make dental checkups fun from the very first visit. The first time your child comes in for an appointment, the goal is to help them feel comfortable in our office. Plus, we’ll help your little one understand the importance of great at-home dental care, and we can even provide you with tips to help your child establish and maintain healthy habits.

Protecting Permanent Teeth

If your child has recently begun losing their “baby” teeth, you know how exciting a time it is for your little one. This is also the perfect time to start thinking about ways to protect their incoming permanent teeth. After all, these are the teeth that will hopefully be with them for the rest of their lives!

One of the ways we do that is with dental sealants. These are thin coats of plastic that are painted onto the chewing surfaces of teeth. When food gets caught in the grooves and crevices of teeth, it attracts harmful bacteria and increases your risk of tooth decay. By protecting these surfaces, the likelihood you’ll experience decay is reduced. In fact, sealants protect against 80 percent of cavities for two years after they’re applied, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. After that, they continue to protect teeth against half of cavities for up to four years.

Another safe and effective way to protect your child’s teeth against decay is to opt for fluoride treatments. Fluoride strengthens enamel, which is the hard, outermost layer of your teeth. Our caring staff can recommend treatments for your child to keep their permanent teeth in great shape.

Something For The Teens: Short-Term Orthodontics

As your child develops, you might decide you want to give your child the gift of a straighter smile. And the office of Lloyd F. Moss Jr., D.D.S., F.A.G.D. and Lloyd F. Moss III, D.D.S. is proud to offer alternatives to traditional metal braces if your teen wants to correct dental misalignment quickly and discreetly.

Invisalign® has become one of the most popular ways to get a straighter smile. Patients love that the aligners used to facilitate incremental movement of the teeth are virtually invisible! Plus, since the aligners are made specifically for your mouth, they’re comfortable to wear. Your teen can expect to wear their aligner for 20 to 22 hours a day, removing it for meals, snacks, and routine cleanings. You can also remove it for special occasions like prom and graduation, so your teen will never be slowed down by bulky brackets and uncomfortable wires.

We also offer Six Month Smiles. Traditional orthodontic treatment can take years. But thanks to Six Month Smiles, it’s possible to achieve a straighter smile in as little as half a year! Six Month Smiles uses patented technology to move the roots and crowns of crooked teeth simultaneously for results that are fast but gentle!
