Dental exams?

If you haven’t checked that last item off your back-to-school list, then today is the day to call (540) 369-4926 or contact our family dentist office online if you live in or near Fredericksburg, VA.

Your kids may not want to think about it, but school will be starting again soon. Drs. Lloyd F. Moss Jr. & Lloyd F. Moss III want your kids to the start the school year with healthy smiles — or at least healthy mouths.

Why Should You Schedule A Back-To-School Dental Cleaning?

You want your children to be focused on their education while they are in school. You also know there are many things that can cause kids to become distracted, not the least of which would be a toothache.

This may be a bigger concern than you realize. The American Dental Association has reported that more than half of all children between the ages of 5 and 9 have had at least one cavity or filling. Cavities can lead to toothaches, which can create a variety of problems.

Your son or daughter might try to ignore it, but a painful tooth can make it difficult to pay attentions to his or her lessons. It also may leave your child feeling like he or she can’t eat lunch, which also can affect his or her focus.

You want your child to have every possible opportunity to succeed in school. Scheduling a dental cleaning with us now could prevent an oral health issue from becoming an obstacle to learning.

A Kid-Friendly Dentist Office

We consider ourselves to be a family dentist office. As such, pediatric dentistry is an important part of what we do.

If we are being completely honest, we enjoy what kids bring to our office, too. Kids are full of energy, excitement, and enthusiasm. Our team enjoys spending time with children, and we do everything we can to make your child’s visit with us fun for him or her, too.

We also know that many kids may feel nervous about coming to the dentist. That’s OK. (Many adults feel the same way.)

One of the ways we try to help children feel more comfortable is by doing something they may be familiar with from school — show and tell. By explaining and showing what we will be doing, we’ve learned that most patients (young and old) feel more relaxed about receiving dental care.

Don’t Forget About The Exam

Tell your kids not to worry. Our exams are not a test, although they are important.

During your family’s visits with us, our team will give your loved ones a thorough cleaning. This will remove plaque and tartar buildup that they may have missed. This reduces their risk of tooth decay.

At the same time, we will be looking for signs of cavities, gum disease, or other oral health problems. This will include a visual exam, but it also can include digital X-rays. These let us monitor changes in your child’s teeth. You may also want to know that digital X-rays use a fraction of the radiation of X-ray machines that use film.

If we do find something, we will let you know as soon as possible. Then we can discuss how to solve this problem. As with many things, taking care of a problem early is easier and less expensive.

That’s a lesson that everyone can appreciate.
