I’ve had a passion for dentistry for many years and it started years ago growing up around a dentist and I’ve been privileged to work with my dad for 13 years now. For many years I was kind of determined to do my own thing and then once I graduated and got into the real world I really discovered my true passion for helping people and I love working with my hands and so after witnessing and spending a lot of time with not only my father but some other specialists in the area, I decided to take the trek to dental school and I haven’t looked back since. I have often thought about it or I get the question of if you were to go to dental school again would you do it and I tell them every single time I’d start tomorrow.
So I went to the University of Richmond for undergraduate and then I joined the workforce for a couple years and that’s when I discovered that I really wanted to pursue dentistry. So that led me back to VCU and I pursued a health science degree because I wasn’t a science major at the University of Richmond so I had to get a lot of pre-reqs. Fortunately I applied to dental school, got in there at VCU as well, four years of learning down there and then decided I would come back here to Fredericksburg to join with my dad.
The most rewarding aspect of dentistry is being able to help people. You can really affect their self-confidence and their overall health and I think that’s probably the greatest reward.
